What is an EORI Code?

The EORI code (Economic Operators Registration and Identification number) is a unique identifier used to recognize any economic operator involved in the import and export of goods within the European Union (EU). This code is essential when trading with third countries (non-EU countries), as it helps customs authorities accurately track and manage trade data across member states. The EORI code is issued by the customs authority of an EU member state, and once granted, it can be used for customs processes throughout the entire EU.

This system ensures a smooth flow of goods and data across borders, improving the efficiency of customs operations within the EU.

Benefits of an EORI Code:
The EORI number simplifies the customs procedures for businesses, particularly when trading with non-EU countries. It streamlines the import/export process, makes it easier to submit requests for necessary permits, and enhances overall compliance with customs regulations.

Once issued in one EU country, the EORI code is valid across all EU member states, eliminating the need to apply for a new code if you trade in multiple EU countries.

When is an EORI Code Required?

An EORI code is required whenever customs formalities need to be completed, especially when trading with third-country merchants (non-EU countries). Economic operators, whether they are registered in the Republic of Lithuania, another EU member state, or third countries, must obtain an EORI code if they are sending goods worth 1,000 EUR or more.

This EORI registration ensures that customs authorities can track and manage the movement of goods efficiently, ensuring compliance with both EU and third-country regulations.

How Can I Obtain an EORI Code?

An EORI code can be obtained within the EU by a person from another member state if the EORI has not been granted in another country, and the code is required for activities related to the country where the code is being requested. The code can also be issued when a division of a company or another economic operator operates in the country as a guarantor and is responsible for the activities being carried out.

To obtain the code, individuals must register in the Customs Obligations Register by submitting an application for registration. The application can be submitted electronically through the Customs Permit System (MLS). It is sufficient to provide the name of the individual or legal entity and the company or personโ€™s code.

The code is typically granted within one business day. Information about the issuance process and current status can be found in the MLS system, and you will be notified once the issuance is successful.

If you are unable to obtain the code due to system issues or missing data for login and information submission, you can contact intermediaries or agencies that will guide you in the right direction and take care of the missing information.
